Bring & Share Festival - Wisbech park
Sunday 1 August 2010
On Sunday 1 August Wisbech Park rang to the sounds of a diverse array of wonderful music, applause and laughter as well over a thousand people
thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment laid on by Wisbech Youth Council and Wisbech Town Council.

‘It was absolutely brilliant,’ said Town Mayor Nick Meekins. ‘My family and I spent the whole day enjoying every moment as we watched
Wisbech band The Brink before they went off to do their Elme Hall gig.

As the stage was being cleared and re-set for the Chatteris Town (Silver) Band, Sara and I went over to the grass arena to watch the Bollywood dancers who were very graceful and beautiful. The Chatteris Band then played an incredible set as usual, finishing of with an amazing rendition of ‘Hey Jude’ by the Beatles.’

This was certainly the best of the best in Wisbech Park, and there was so much more to come. We enjoyed trying out Taekwon-do in the grass arena,
and then we were treated to a magnificent session from the World Muzic Makers from the African Heritage Centre in Thorney,

who also did taster sessions in the grass arena (where the Mayor was given one-to-one training)

The main stage then came alive again to the sounds of the D.U.D.I Crew who are a very talented group of youth workers working with Fenland Arts Association.
Following them in vibrant succession came the Romantic Idols, with Clementine on drums, and the Leon Band with sound man Adam on amazing vocals.
He and his crew also provided the sound for the event through his company Bubble Pulse Sound.

‘We had a fantastic day and so did everyone else who came along. I certainly hope we can do this again next year.’
Event Organiser, Erbie Murat, who has been the Town Clerk for Wisbech for nearly three years was delighted, ‘Whenever you organise events
like this you do wonder whether people will turn up, and whether it will rain or not, but it did not rain and people did turn up – we estimate that
well over a thousand people were in the park at any one time, and it was absolutely fabulous.’

The Macmillan stall raised over £200, and the NHS, Richmond Fellowship, Mind and Drink Sense had a great day with their information stalls.
The Allotment competition attracted five exceptional entries of produce ...

... and the Rosmini Centre excelled themselves with over thirty volunteers cooking up a storm with food from nine different cultures available for people
to try, all for free. The food marquee was exceptionally well patronised between 12 noon and 4 pm as hundreds of people grazed through the amazing
variety of gorgeous food that was available.

The fairground provided by Donald Gray’s Amusements was a huge success too and we are extremely grateful to them for providing the power generator
to make this all possible – finally thank vey much again to S. Venni Transport for their two trailers, and amazing drivers and James Else (Carpentry) for
creating the magnificent forty foot by twenty foot stage for the performers to play their hearts out.
Cllr David Oliver, who is the Leader of Wisbech Town Council and who spent the entire day as the Senior Steward on site with wife Barbara and
daughter Jess helping, paid tribute to Erbie and his wife Dawn, their son Stuart, twelve other members of Wisbech Youth Council, the Connor girls
Maxine and Michelle and mum Margaret, and Deputy Mayor Jonathan Farmer and his wife Susanah who were the Stewards for the Day.
